UF in Cusco – Experiential Learning for Health Professions

The Department of Castilian and Portuguese Studies and the Department of Biology invite you to participate in an experience that will aggrandize your linguistic and cultural fluency through language study and wellness-related community service.  Based on Spanish-language level, students will be placed in a multifariousness of settings, including hospitals, medical clinics, pharmacies and/or with dentists.  On this program, students will have the opportunity to ameliorate their command of Spanish, compare health systems, acquire near diseases, and explore the cultures of South America.

UF in Kenya – Field Ecology in Africa

For three weeks, y'all'll live in some of the virtually beautiful and wild areas of Eastward Africa, experiencing first-hand the extraordinary biological and cultural diversity of the region. Over the course of our program, you'll learn well-nigh the ecology and conservation of tropical ecosystems, while gaining valuable field experience through participation in scientific fieldwork, conservation initiatives and interactions with ecologists and conservation biologists in the region.

Additional Study Away Opportunities:

Semester of Immersion

The Section of Biology is offering Biology, Phytology, Zoology, and Marine Science students the opportunity to engage in authentic enquiry-based courses in molecular biology, biodiversity, and ecology. Instead of spending the spring term taking a typical 12-credit load with courses meeting 2 to 3 times per calendar week, the Semester of Immersion consists of courses that encounter daily, giving you the time and flexibility to get more deeply involved in the subject. Yous can choose to go to adventurous field sites or immerse yourself in a molecular lab. You lot will produce and analyze real data, and experience biology every bit it is truly done, past completing actual research.

Note: the program is offered every even Spring semester. The next Semester of Immersion is Spring 2020.
