Red White and Blue Gummies are an easy, festive Fourth of July candy recipe. These chewy, flavorful gummies are the perfect warm-weather candy, and a great addition to any Independence Day party. Cut them into fun shapes with cookie cutters to make them more festive!

This gummy recipe takes a while because there are chilling periods in between each layer, but most of the time is inactive "resting" time--the actual kitchen time is minimal! To speed up the process, you can be prepping the ingredients for the other layers while the candy is chilling in the refrigerator.

For the Blue Layer:

  • 1/3 cup cold water

  • 1 (3-ounce) package blue jello

  • 1 (0.25-ounce) envelope unflavored gelatin

For the White Layer:

  • 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin (from about 2 1/2 envelopes)

  • 1/3 cup cold water

  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract, optional

For the Red Layer:

  • 1/3 cup cold water

  • 1 (3-ounce) package red jello

  • 1 (0.25-ounce) envelope unflavored gelatin

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Line an 8x8-inch pan with foil, and spray foil lightly with nonstick cooking spray.

  3. Combine ingredients for blue gelatin layer in a medium bowl. Whisk together, then let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.

  4. Microwave bowl for 30 seconds, then whisk well. Microwave for another 30 seconds and stir. If sugar has dissolved and mixture looks clear and well-mixed, then pour into prepared pan. If not, microwave for another 10 to15 seconds until all the sugar and gelatin have dissolved. Refrigerate pan to set gelatin, about 20 minutes.

  5. To make white layer, combine gelatin with 3 tablespoons of cold water in a small bowl and whisk together. Let sit 5 minutes.

  6. Combine remaining 3 tbsp water, sweetened condensed milk, and sugar in a small saucepan. Heat mixture, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a simmer.

  7. Add gelatin and whisk until gelatin dissolves. Remove from heat and add coconut extract, if using.

  8. Pour white gelatin over blue gelatin in the pan, and refrigerate it for another 20 minutes to set.

  9. Prepare red gelatin layer the same way as the blue, and pour over white layer. Refrigerate for 20 minutes once more.

  10. Once set, remove gelatin from pan using foil as handles. Cut into small squares, or use a cookie cutter to cut into shapes.
